I love a good old fashioned scare tactic book for children. I highly doubt that kids get the fear of being crushed while playing in a pile of leaves instilled in them anymore. Damn shame.
If I recall, a girl sitting on a snowbank was run over by a snowplow in Red Hook a few winters ago. It stuck with me because it seemed like such a sudden, needless, Brooklyn sort of death and I don't know if the city ever took responsibility. I know it's hard to resist piles of snow and leaves; perhaps it's time to bring back the gruesome endings genre. [CreativePro via The Rumpus]
