More Exciting Than a High-Speed Train to Albany

Mysteryr

My holiday weekend was fairly uneventful—until I encountered a total lifechanger (right up there with realizing Dillahunt and the hot vampire child from Let Me In were both in The Road). For what feels like eternity, I have complained about my F to Jay Street, walk a block and pay another $2.25 Lawrencetunnel (I don’t always buy an unlimited card if I know I’m going to work from home a day or two a week) to enter the Lawrence Street R (RIP M) commute. Sure, there’s been tons of construction for at least a year, but I had no idea it was to connect the two stations (I was aware this was a project in the works but assumed it would be years off or get stalled like most NYC construction). I can’t wait for the yellow R circle to be officially revealed.

I’ve been waiting for the new staircase at the creepy, filthy, often chainsaw-noisy end of the narrow R platform that’s completely desolate at 9:45am to be opened because it’s closer to the Jay St. exit, but I just realized that right behind it is an about-to-open tunnel. My heart can’t take it. Now, I will have to find something new to complain about.

Plus, there’s video where the station looks all bright and clean and full of respectable people instead of shuffly loiterers and a guy pissing a firehose-strength stream off the platform.
