Unless the Manhattan JCPenney mannequins are radically different from the ones at the Queens JCPenney, it would be impossible to call them obese (yes, I’ve heard of hyperbole and creative license). They’re not even borderline overweight. I won’t argue that the clothes are any great shakes, and sure, natural fibers are next to nonexistent, though in all of New York City there are countless worse offenders if you take issue with fat and tacky…sadly, none exist in Carroll Gardens; I’ve always thought that a Rainbow would give this neighborhood the boost it needs.
In a total Willamina Slater pays a visit to Ugly Betty on her own turf move (has that happened on the show? Am I the only one who watches the show? All those Manhattanite coworkers just casually stopping by her family’s Jackson Heights home have started to blur in my mind), Anna Wintour will be at the Queens Center Mall on September 10 for Fashion’s Night Out, an event I can’t quite comprehend even after reading about it in numerous places.
The best thing to come out of it are two photoshopped collages placing Anna uncomfortably close to a Queens shopping center. Racked got the correct Macy’s while Nymag.com has her grimacing in front of the Queens Place Mall. Their Macy’s is just a furniture store—in fact, I was checking out the Martha Stewart beds in the eerily empty retailer on Saturday.
